Activate the Administrator Account in Vista [How To] Windows Vista hides the administrator account by default. This is done as a security measure. In this guide you. Oct 19, 2013. Learn how to enable, activate or turn on the built-in hidden super Administrator account in Windows 10/8/7/Vista It is similar to the root account in Unix. Describes how to enable the built-in administrator account by command-line in Windows Vista so that you can do some automation works without receiving UAC elevation. You probably know about the 'hidden' administrator account in Windows XP. It's the only account on XP systems on which no other accounts have been created. Until you add a new account, you zip right to the desktop when you boot the OS, with no stop at the Welcome screen. Once you set up one or more new accounts, the default administrator disappears, though you can bring it back in both XP Home and Pro. (More on this below.) Vista ships with this account disabled, which is not such a bad thing because every user on the PC should have his or her own custom account, even if 'every' translates to 'one.' Still, this back-up administrator account can come in handy if you encounter some problems logging into or otherwise using Vista. To enable it, right-click the Command Prompt on the Start menu (it is likely listed under Accessories), choose Run as administrator, type net user administrator /active:yes, and press Enter. You should see a message stating that the command completed successfully. Type exit and press Enter again to close the Command Prompt window. Enable Windows Vista's backup administrator account from the Command Prompt. When you restart Windows, you'll see a new account labeled simply 'Administrator.' The first time you log into this account, Windows will tell you that it's preparing the desktop before the system's default desktop appears. Click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Controls > Change your Windows password > Create a password for your account, enter your password twice, add a hint (if you wish), and click Create password. (If you use Control Panel's classic view, the settings to create a password are in the User Accounts applet.) To disable this administrator account, follow the steps above to return to the Command Prompt in administrator mode, type net user administrator /active:no, press Enter, type exit, and press Enter again. Give XP's hidden administrator account a password This administrator account is a well-documented security risk in Windows XP because by default it doesn't have a password, which means anyone can log into your system via this account, change the passwords for all the other accounts, and perform other mischief. To give the account a password in XP Home, restart the PC, press F8 before Windows loads, select Safe Mode, and press Enter. The only selection will likely be Microsoft Windows XP. With this option highlighted, press Enter again. You'll see a Welcome screen with an account labeled Administrator. Click this account, choose Yes at the warning, open the User Accounts applet in Control Panel, click the Administrator account again, choose Create a password, enter the new password twice, enter a hint (if you wish), and click Create Password. You may also be asked if you wish to make this account's files private. Make your selection and click Finish. There's a much simpler way to make this administrator account visible on the Welcome screen in XP Pro: Open the Tweak UI Powertoy, click Logon in the left pane, check Show 'Administrator' on Welcome screen in the Settings window on the right, and click OK. Note that you'll still have to log into this account and follow the steps above to add a password for it. Select the Logon option and check this option to add the hidden Administrator account to the Welcome screen in XP Pro. Forgot your Windows user password or accidentally delete or disable your account? Can't log into your computer because your user profile is corrupt? If it happens to be the only account with the administrative rights, you'll be locked out of the system. Fortunately, there is a built-in administrator account you can use to log on Windows. This account is the first account created during Windows installation. It has no password and is hidden by default. The account cannot be deleted or locked out. It is a member of the Administrators group and cannot be removed from that group. Tips: In Windows XP, you can log into the built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. However, starting from Windows Vista, the built-in administrator account is disabled by default and you can't even access it from Safe Mode. If you can still log on Windows as administrator, you can easily. Locked out of Windows and can't log on with the built-in administrator account in Safe Mode? With PCUnlocker Live CD you can enable the built-in administrator account in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP. This tool can also reset the built-in administrator password if you had changed the password but cannot remember it any longer. 1Create A PCUnlocker Live CD/USB Drive • to download and save the PCUnlocker self-extracting Zip file to a folder on your hard drive, then extract the ISO image file: pcunlocker.iso from it. • Insert a blank CD or USB flash drive into your computer. When it is powered on, check the boot-screen for setup key (i.e. DELETE key, F8 key, F2 key) to enter BIOS Setup Utility. • Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab, then change the Boot Device Priority: Set 1st Boot Device to CDROM if you just created a bootable CD or DVD, or set 1st Boot Device to Removable Device if a bootable USB flash drive was created. • Press F10 to save your changes. Now your computer will restart and then boot from PCUnlocker Live CD/USB drive. If you still can't get your computer to boot from the CD/USB drive, please refer to this. 3Enable the Built-in Administrator Account • After the computer boots up from the CD or USB drive, it will start the PCUnlocker program which displays a list of local accounts that are stored in Windows SAM registry hive. Select the built-in administrator account and click on Reset Password button. • Click Yes to confirm your operation. The program will enable the built-in administrator account and also remove its password if it is protected with a password. • Click Restart to reboot the computer and remove the CD or USB drive. You can then log into Windows built-in administrator account without a password. After logging back into Windows, you can create a new administrator account for your daily work. For security purpose, it is advisable to disable the built-in administrator account again, or rename this built-in administrator account and to assign it a strong password.

Say what you will about Google, which is and, but they offer at least a novel concept of freedom: a smartphone platform they built, but which doesn’t necessarily require their own apps to run. It’s not easy, and you might actually have to slightly endanger your phone to get there, but there exists an Android phone that doesn’t give Google personal data, ad revenue, or anything else. So, how, exactly, do you trick Google into giving you the foundation without allowing them to look through any windows? Here’s how to set up an almost entirely non-Google-powered Android, in practice: Don’t sign in during setup or enable backups When you first turn on your phone, or after you perform a “factory reset” on it, you’ll be asked to sign in with a Google account. Nov 29, 2008 It just came with the phone. I can go through the activation proccess. G1 G1 Android Development How to register the G1 without a. Google Android phones (G1) provide many popular applications to their users. However, a number of developers desire to develop applications for the device without the assistance of the T-Mobile network. Though, T-Mobile prefers you to enter into a contractual agreement with their company to obtain cell phone service,. Don’t do it, and look for the “Skip” option. Your phone can run without a Google account, and you can add other accounts to fill out your contacts and calendar and the like--Microsoft Exchange, Facebook, Twitter, and more. Also skip the options to send feedback about your usage, back up your settings to Google, and so on. Skip just about everything. Hide or remove Google apps This is the trickiest part of the whole Bizarro-Droid process. You have two options, as I see it: • Root your phone and remove Google apps: If you truly wanted to wipe your slate clean of Google’s Gmail, Calendar, Maps, and other offerings, you’d need to give yourself deep access to the phone’s internals, referred to as “rooting.” The, but once it’s done, you can, along with the stuff your carrier and manufacturer jammed on there. Or you can install an entirely new OS, like, which won't install with Google Apps unless you want it to. • Hide Google’s apps with an alternate launcher: The part of your phone that shows app icons, widgets, and contains your app list? That’s actually an app itself, and you can replace it. Two prime candidates are and --my preference is LauncherPro. Install either one, then tap your phone’s Home button, and you’ll see a choice of using either your default launcher or that app. Both apps allow you to hide apps from the app tray, as well as change app icons to remove any Google-y stylings. Get alternate apps An alternate application exists for just about every Google application offered, or installed by default, on Android phones. Some are great, some are workable, and some will make you realize the value of Google’s free-for-everyone approach. Here’s my short list of potential swap-outs: ( Note: Using the Android Market requires signing in with a Google account. That’s just unavoidable. There are work-arounds, like finding the.apk files for these apps around the web, or looking for them in, but you could also create a Google account just for this purpose alone. It’s up to you.) • Gmail -> (or IMAP email): It works just fine if you’ve got a Yahoo Mail account, and Yahoo’s web-based interface isn’t too bad, either. Otherwise, you can use the stock “Email” app, or something better like to retrieve your Gmail or personal email through the IMAP protocol, and never see advertisements. • Maps ->: Mapquest is rather good, really, and it’s formed an interesting alliance with, which can offer deeper, community-provided results and directions. Plus it has voice-narrated turn-by-turn directions, and it also can cache the area around you for offline look-ups. • Browser -> or: If you’re a desktop user of either Opera or Firefox, you’ll find their mobile apps quite nice, and easy to sync up with. If not, install both, and see which one fits you best. • Search ->: Sadly, you can’t replace the default search engine assigned to your Android phone, even with rooting (unless I’ve missed something). But you can choose to replace the Google search app icon with Bing, replace the voice search default with Bing, and take the extra half-step to tap the “Search with Bing” option whenever you tap the search button or click the search widget. • Calendar -> Exchange setup (or something web-based): This is actually the stumper. Most of the calendar apps in the Android Market are just re-styled interfaces for Google’s own Calendar service. So you can either hook up to your work Exchange server, or perhaps find a good web-based calendar service you can bookmark on your home screen. • YouTube -> Web-based YouTube: I like, but many videos are only on YouTube. So, using your alternate browser, and without signing in, simply head to YouTube’s mobile web version and view your videos there. The web version, actually, is often better, and certainly better looking. In the end, you’ll probably decide that you like the convenience of Google’s offerings on your Android phone. That is, after all, their mission and purpose. But you don’t have to give Google every bit of data about your mobile life, so spreading it around a few different apps can lend some piece of mind about your digital life, if that’s a concern for you. Android is, if not entirely, dictionary-strict “open,” at least rather permissive. RECOMMENDED: Majority of Windows users use the default Windows Media Player to play audio and video files. Even though there are plenty of better alternatives around, none of them come close to Windows Media Payer’s beautiful and easy-to-use interface. Microsoft has dropped a number of small features from Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 operating systems. One of them is WMP taskbar toolbar. It’s a well known fact that the 12 (WMP 12) present in Windows 10/8/7 doesn’t come with the taskbar toolbar. Windows Media Player Taskbar Toolbar, if you don’t know, is a small toolbar that appears in the taskbar when you minimize Windows Media Player. As many of the Vista and XP users are missing this handy toolbar in Windows 7, here is a master guide to help you get taskbar toolbar in Windows 10/8/7 with all features. Make sure you follow all steps correctly to get the taskbar toolbar. Enable Windows Media Player taskbar toolbar in Windows 10/8/7 How to get Windows Media Player Taskbar Toolbar in Windows 10/8/7: Step 1: Download the wmpband.dll file from. To download wmpband.dll (x64) visit. Make sure you download the right version of wmpband.dll file. Step 2: Copy the file to C: Program Files Windows Media Player folder. Step 3: Now, you need to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is disabled. Type in Services in Start menu search box and then hit enter to launch Services window. Locate Windows Media Player Network Sharing service and stop it. Step 4: Open the Command Prompt as administrator and execute the following command: regsvr32 “c: Program Files Windows Media Player wmpband.dll” Here change “c” your Windows 10/8/7 drive. Wait for a few seconds to see the succeed message. Step 5: Launch WMP and minimize it. Step 6: Right-click on the Taskbar, go to Toolbars and then select Windows Media Player. Click Yes if you are prompted with “The Windows Media Player toolbar isn’t compatible with this version of Windows” message. Step 7: You are done! You should see the Windows Media Player toolbar in your taskbar now. Thanks for the tip. It is ridiculous to suggest that Media Player Classic doesn’t come close to “Windows Media Player’s beautiful and easy-to-use interface.” MPC is easier to use and beautiful in it’s design simplicity. It basically started by taking the last good media player made by MS (WMP 6.4) and just kept updating and improving the functionality while refusing to adapt the increasingly terrible design and interface choices made by Microsoft’s retarded monkey team (aka the Windows Media Player guys.) If any of you are still using WMP, search for and download K-lite codec pack and install with all the defaults. After an hour of using MPC, you will never want to use WMP again. If you are like me, you will even remove Windows Media Player via “Add/Remove Windows Components (XP)” or “Turn Windows features on or off (Vista/7).” • zappafrank says. Also, seems to be an issue where after a bit, I no longer can “restore” to the library view either from the minimized toolbar or the pinned icon on the taskbar. It will expand to the visualization view, but when I try to switch back to library view, nothing happens. Nor can I close WMP. In order to close WMP, I have to unpin the toolbar then expand WMP from the square taskbar icon and close it. Only then can I get the library view back, by opening WMP up fresh, after unpinning the old style toolbar. • zappafrank says. Sep 28, 2000. For example, you will need the following package to install the Oracle Access Manager Web components for IIS: Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_3_0_Win32_ ISAPI_WebPass Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_3_0_Win32_ ISAPI_Policy_Manager Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_3_0_Win32_ ISAPI_WebGate 64-bit WebGate: Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_3_0_Win64_ISAPI_WebGate.exe Updating the IIS Web server configuration file is required when installing Oracle Access Manager Web components. With IIS Web servers, a configuration update involves updating the Web server directly by adding the ISAPI filter and creating extensions required by Oracle Access Manager. A filter listens to all requests to the site on which it is installed. Filters can examine and modify both incoming and outgoing streams of data to enhance IIS functionality. ISAPI extensions are implemented as DLLs that are loaded into a process that is controlled by IIS. Like ASP and HTML pages, IIS uses the virtual location of the DLL file in the file system to map the ISAPI extension into the URL namespace that is served by IIS. Oracle recommends that you update the IIS Web server configuration file automatically during Oracle Access Manager Web component installation. Automatic updates may take more than a minute. However, updating the IIS Web server configuration file manually takes longer and could introduce unintended errors. For more specific guidelines, see: • • • • •. 19.1.1 WebPass Guidelines for IIS Web Servers The WebPass must be installed on the same Web server instance as a Policy Manager, at the same directory level as a Policy Manager. The WebPass installer cannot update multiple Web server instances. If you have multiple IIS Web server instances installed, be sure to install a separate WebPass on each Web server instance. It installs various IIS 6 components but Web. Directory on the web server. To create and configure virtual directories on an IIS web server. I'm having a few issues deploying OCS 2007. I'm getting mostly successes in the log file except for a few failures. Your Web server must be configured to operate with the WebPass. Oracle recommends automatically updating your Web server configuration during WebPass installation. 19.1.2 Policy Manager Guidelines for IIS Web Servers The Policy Manager must be installed on the same Web server instance as a WebPass, at the same directory level as a WebPass. The Policy Manager installer cannot update multiple Web servers instances. If you have multiple IIS Web server instances installed, be sure to install a separate Policy Manager on each Web server instance. When installing the Policy Manager for an IIS Web server with: • Windows 2000: When installing the Policy Manager on Windows 2000 with IIS, ensure that the group named Everyone has full access to the temp directory and the drive (for example, C or D) to which the temp directory belongs. The TEMP variable needs to be set to point to a valid directory, either for the entire system or for the IIS user. Oracle recommends setting the TEMP variable for the entire system. • Active Directory: If you specify Active Directory on Windows Server 2003 as the directory server during Policy Manager installation, a new page appears asking if dynamic auxiliary classes are to be supported. If you are using ADSI, you need to set the IIS Web server Anonymous User Login Account to a Domain User after installation and before setting up the Policy Manager. For more information about Active Directory, see. A Policy Manager installed with an IIS Web server depends on the Registry to obtain the PolicyManager_install_dir. To avoid a conflict in the Registry when you install two Policy Managers on a single computer, one with an IIS Web server and the other with a Sun Web server, you must install the Policy Managers as outlined in the following procedure. Task overview: To avoid a conflict with IIS and Sun Web server instances • Install the Policy Manager with the Sun Web server first. • Install the Policy Manager with the IIS Web server second. For more information about installing a Policy Manager, see. See Also: • • • for details about WebGates for Apache v2, including Oracle HTTP Server and IBM HTTP Server. These might be the only WebGates in your installation or can coexist with other WebGates. Before installing the WebGate, ensure that your IIS Web server is not in lockdown mode. Otherwise things will appear to be working until the server is rebooted and the metabase re-initialized, at which time IIS will disregard activity that occurred after the lockdown. Activate web components server iis virtual directory setting. Activate web components server iis virtual directory setting steps are here. Setting various permissions for the /access directory is required for IIS WebGates only when you are installing on a file system that supports NTFS. For example, suppose you install the ISAPI WebGate in Simple or Cert mode on a Windows 2000 computer running the FAT32 file system. The last installation panel provides instructions for manually setting various permissions that cannot be set on the FAT32 file system. In this case, these instructions may be ignored. Each IIS Virtual Web server can have it's own WebGate.dll file installed at the virtual level, or can have one WebGate affecting all sites installed at the site level. Either install the WebGate.dll at the site level to control all virtual hosts or install the WebGate.dll for one or all virtual hosts. You may also need to install the postgate.dll file at the computer level. The postgate.dll is located in the WebGate_install_dir, as described in. If you perform multiple installations, multiple versions of this file may be created which may cause unusual Oracle Access Manager behavior. In this case, you should verify that only one webgate.dll and one postgate.dll exist. Note: The postgate.dll is always installed at the site level. If for some reason the WebGate is reinstalled, the postgate.dll is also reinstalled. In this case, ensure that only one copy of the postgate.dll exists at the site level. As with other Oracle Access Manager Web components, your Web server must be configured to operate with the WebGate. Oracle recommends automatically updating your Web server configuration during installation. Also: • You may receive special instructions to perform during WebGate installation. For example: Setting various permissions for the /access directory is required for IIS WebGates only when you are installing on a file system that supports NTFS. The last installation panel provides instructions for manually setting various permissions that cannot be set on the FAT32 file system. In this case, these instructions may be ignored. • On IIS, if you are using client certificate authentication you must enable SSL on the IIS Web server hosting the WebGate before enabling client certificates for WebGate. You must also ensure that various filters are installed in a particular order. In addition, you may need to install the postgate.dll as an ISAPI filter. For information about installing a WebGate, see. 19.1.5 Multiple WebGates with a Single IIS Instance Unless explicitly stated, details in this topic apply equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. IIS v6.0 supports hosting multiple Web sites on a single Web server and Oracle Access Manager ISAPI WebGate allows you to protect each Web site with a different WebGate. Previous releases of the Oracle Access Manager ISAPI WebGate did not support multiple WebGates with a single IIS Web server instance. You either had to install one WebGate for all Web sites at the top level, or protect a single Web site by configuring WebGate at the Web site level. IIS 6 provides application pools that are used to run virtual servers. You can think of an application pool as a group of one or more URLs that are served by a worker process or a set of worker processes. An application pool is a configuration that links one or more applications to a set of one or more worker processes. Because applications in this pool are separated from other applications by worker process boundaries, an application in one application pool is not affected by problems caused by applications in other application pools. Today, WebGate instances can run in different process spaces. When you have multiple Web sites on a single IIS v6.0 Web server instance, you need to ensure that user requests reach the correct Web site. To do this, you need to configure a unique identity for each site on the server using at least one of three unique identifiers: • Host header name • IP address • TCP port number. Note: If you have multiple Web sites on a single server and these are distinguished by IP address and port, multiple WebGates are not required. Starting with release 10.1.4.2.0 virtual hosts on Apache and IIS 6.0 are supported. As a result, a single WebGate on the top level can protect all the Web sites even if the IP addresses are different. This is handled by using different Host Identifiers for each Web site. You can install multiple WebGates on different Web sites of the same IIS Web server instance. However, several manual steps are required. 19.3 Verifying WebPass Permissions on IIS Once you have installed WebPass and updated the Web server configuration, you should ensure that the WebPass installation directory has the proper permissions to run correctly. To verify the WebPass IIS Web server configuration • Locate the following directory: WebPass_install_dir identity oblix apps webpass bin • Right click the bin directory, then select Properties. • Select the Security tab and ensure that 'Allow' for 'Read' and 'Write' rights are granted to user 'SERVICE'. To verify when WebPass was set up in Simple or Cert mode • Locate WebPass_install_dir identity oblix config password.xml. • Right click password.xml, then select Properties. • Select the Security tab and ensure that 'Allow' for 'Read' rights are granted to users: 'IUSR_' 'IWAM_' 'NETWORK SERVICE' 'IIS_WPG' (only for IIS 6.0). 19.4 Verifying Policy Manager Permissions on IIS Whether you updated your configuration automatically during Policy Manager installation or manually, you can easily verify that the directory permissions are properly set for Oracle Access Manager. To verify the Policy Manager IIS Web server configuration • Launch your Web browser, and open the following file, if needed. For example: PolicyManager_install_dir access oblix lang langTag docs config.htm • Select the appropriate Web server interface configuration protocol from the table on the screen, also shown under. • Review the directory permissions and compare them to those set on the Policy Manager Web server. 19.5.1 Enabling Client Certificate Authentication on the IIS Web Server Unless explicitly stated, details in this topic apply equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. If you are using client certificate authentication, you must enable SSL on the IIS Web server. If you select client certificate authentication during setup, you must also add the cert_authn.dll as one of the ISAPI filters. This procedures here reflect the sequence for IIS v5. You environment might be different. To enable SSL on the IIS Web server • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Expand the Default Web Site (or the appropriate Web site), then expand access oblix apps webgate bin. • Right click cert_authn.dll and select Properties. • In the Properties panel, select the File Security tab. • In the Secure Communications sub-panel, click Edit. • In the Client Certificate Authentication sub-panel, click Accept Certificates and click OK. • Click OK in the cert_authn.dll Properties panel. • Proceed to the next procedure:. To add cert_authn.dll as an ISAPI filter • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Right click the appropriate Web Site to display the Properties panel. • Click the ISAPI Filters tab, then click the Add button to display the Filter Properties panel. • Enter filter name 'cert_authn'. • Click the Browse button and navigate to the following directory: WebGate_install_dir access oblix apps webgate bin • Select cert_authn.dll as the executable. • Click OK on the Filter Properties panel. • Click Apply on the ISAPI Filters panel. • Ensure the filters are listed in the correct order. Note: This task is the same whether you are installing one or more WebGates per IIS Web server instance. To order the WebGate ISAPI filters • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Right-click the Web Site and select Properties. • Click Properties, select ISAPI filters. • Confirm the following.dll files appear. For example: cert_authn.dll webgate.dll oblixlock.dll transfilter.dll • Add any missing filters, if needed, then select a filter name and use the up and down arrows to arrange the filter order as shown in step 5. Note: POST data is used in an authorization decision that includes rule parameters (for the AzMan authorization plug-in, for example). In this case, postgate.dll must be installed. However, postgate.dll is not supported when you have more than one WebGate installed and configured for a single IIS Web server instance. POST data is required for pass through during a form login on the IIS Web server when using the WebGate extension method (where the WebGate is the action of the form). In other words, if a form authentication scheme on the IIS Web server is configured with the passthrough option, and the target of the login form requires the data posted by the form, the WebGate extension method (where the WebGate DLL is the action of the form) cannot be used. The WebGate filter method (where the action of the form is a protected URL that is not the WebGate DLL) must be used instead, and the postgate DLL must be installed and enabled. The following procedures presume that you are familiar with the IIS Web server commands. Two procedures are provided: • •. 19.5.3.1 Setting Up IIS Web Server Isolation Mode On IIS 6 Web servers only, you must run the WWW service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode. This is required by the ISAPI postgate filter. To set IIS 5.0 isolation on IIS 6 Web servers • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Right-click the Web Site and select Properties. • Select the Service tab in the Web Site Properties window. • Check the box beside Run WWW service in IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode. Note: Before installation (or after uninstallation) the filters must be removed manually. If multiple copies of a filter are installed, this means that they were not manually removed before installing the new filters. There can only be one postgate.dll configured at the (top) Web Sites level of a computer. You can have multiple webgate.dlls configured at different levels from the top level Web Sites. However, they share the same postgate.dll. If you perform multiple WebGate installations on one computer, multiple versions of the postgate.dll file can be created which might cause unusual Oracle Access Manager behavior. Note: postgate.dll is not supported when you have more than one WebGate installed and configured for a single IIS Web server instance. The following procedures guide as you install and position the postgate ISAPI filter when you have a single WebGate installed with a single IIS Web server instance. To install the postgate ISAPI filter • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Right-click the Web Site and select Properties. • Select the ISAPI Filters tab in the Web Site Properties window. • Click the Add button to display the Filter Properties panel. • Enter the filter name 'postgate'. • Click the Browse button and navigate to the following directory: WebGate_install_dir access oblix apps webgate bin • Select postgate.dll as the executable. • Click OK on the Filter Properties panel. • Click Apply on the ISAPI Filters panel. To restart IIS and reposition the postgate ISAPI filter • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed. • Right-click your local computer, then select All Tasks, select Restart IIS. • Select the ISAPI Filters tab on the Properties panel. • Select the postgate filter and move it before WebGate, using the up arrow. For example: postgate.dll webgate.dll oblixlock.dll • Restart IIS or proceed with next. See Also: When you install a WebGate on an IIS Web server that does not have the 'Default Web Site' configured, the installer does not create 'Virtual Directory access', which must be done manually using the following procedure. To protect a Web site (not the default site) • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed • Select the name of the Web site to protect. • Right-click the name of the Web site to protect and select New, and then select Virtual Directory in the menu. • Click Next. • Select Alias: access, then click Next. • Directory: Enter the full path to the /access directory, then click Next. WebGate_install_dir access • Select Read, Run Scripts, and Execute, then click Next. • Click Finish. • Restart IIS. For example: Select Start, then Run. Type net start w3svc. 19.6 Installing and Configuring Multiple WebGates for a Single IIS Instance Unless explicitly stated, this topic applies equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. This section describes how to install and configure multiple WebGates for different Web sites on same IIS Web server instance. Several steps are manual and will differ from those that are performed when you install a single WebGate with a single IIS instance. When installing multiple WebGates for a single IIS instance: • The webgate.dll must be configured as an ISAPI filter at the individual Web site level, not the default (top) Web server level • The /access virtual directory is mapped at the Web site level to the respective /access directory in the WebGate installation. When configuring the impersonation DLL for multiple WebGates, you need to configure a user to act as the operating system. There can only be one postgate.dll configured at the (top) Web Sites level of a machine. However, you might have multiple webgate.dlls configured at different levels below the top level Web Sites. If you perform multiple WebGate installations on one machine, multiple versions of the postgate.dll file might be created that can cause unusual Oracle Access Manager behavior. Task overview: Installing and configuring multiple WebGates for a single IIS instance • • • • Perform the following tasks, which are the same whether you install one or more WebGates per IIS Web server instance: • •. 19.6.1 Installing Each WebGate in a Multiple WebGate Scenario Unless explicitly stated, this topic applies equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. After installing the ISAPI WebGate, there are several manual steps to perform as described here. By default, webgate.dll is configured as an ISAPI filter at the Web sites (top) level. When installing multiple WebGates with a single IIS instance, you need to remove the respective webgate.dll from the top level and configure it for the appropriate individual Web site after each WebGate installation. 19.6.2 Setting the Impersonation DLL for Multiple WebGates Unless explicitly stated, this topic applies equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. The client's access token is known as an impersonation token. The impersonation token identifies the client, the client's groups, and the client's privileges. The information in the token is used during access checks when the thread requests access to resources on the client's behalf. Access System authenticates & authorizes user. IISImpersonationExtension.dll of OAM in wildcard extension behaves like a filter for each request to web server. The Access System designates a special user that does have the right to impersonate another user by configuring it using the impersonation username/password on the AccessGate configuration page. That designated user must have 'act as operating system' rights. DLL impersonates the user authenticated & authorized by OAM & generates impersonation token. You perform the following steps to set the impersonation DLL for each WebGate that protects a Web site for a single IIS Web server instance. You can do this either immediately after the installation task in the previous topic or all at one time. Note: This task must be performed for each WebGate that protects an individual Web site for a single IIS Web server instance. To add the impersonation DLL to IIS configuration for individual Web sites • Start the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. • Click the plus icon (+) beside the Local Computer icon in the left pane to display your Web Sites. • Click Web Service Extensions in the left pane. • Double-click WebGate in the right pane to open the Properties panel. • Click the Required Files tab. • In the Path to file text box, type the full path to IISImpersonationExtension.dll, and then click OK. For example: WebGate_install_dir access oblix apps webgate bin IISImpersonationExtension.dll This example shows the default path, where WebGate_install_dir is the file system directory where you have installed this particular WebGate. • Verify that the Allow button beside the WebGate icon is grayed out, which indicates that the dll is allowed to run as a Web service extension. • Right click the Web site name, and then click Properties. • Click the Home Directory tab, and then click the Configuration button. • In the list box for Wildcard application maps, click the entry for IISImpersonationExtension.dll to highlight it, then click Edit. • Ensure that the box is unchecked, and then click OK. • Repeat these steps for each WebGate and Web site pair for the IIS Web server instance. • Proceed as follows: • Client Certificate Authentication: •. Note: Procedures in this topic apply equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates, unless stated otherwise. If you select client certificate authentication during setup, you must also add the cert_authn.dll as one of the ISAPI filters in the respective Web site. To enable SSL on the IIS Web server • Start the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. • Expand the local computer icon to display your Web Sites. • Expand the appropriate individual Web Site, then expand access oblix apps webgate bin. • Repeat for each WebGate installed on this host. • Proceed to the next task:. To add cert_authn.dll as an ISAPI filter • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Right click the appropriate Web Site to display the Properties panel. • Click the ISAPI Filters tab, then click the Add button to display the Filter Properties panel. • Enter filter name ' cert_authn'. • Click the Browse button and navigate to the following directory: WebGate_install_dir access oblix apps webgate bin • Select cert_authn.dll as the executable. • Click OK on the Filter Properties panel. • Click Apply on the ISAPI Filters panel. • Repeat for each WebGate installed on this host. • Ensure the filters are listed in the correct order. • Proceed to. 19.7 Finishing 64-bit WebGate Installation This section describes how to complete installation of a 64-bit WebGate. You can skip this section if you are installing a 32-bit WebGate. In this case, see instead,. Before you start tasks here, be sure that you have completed WebGate installation according to information in. You must also have completed Web server configuration updates for this WebGate either automatically during WebGate installation or manually, as described in. Task overview: Finishing installation of a 64-bit WebGate • Perform steps in. • Enable client certificates, if desired. • When finished, you can: • Confirm operations as described in • Create a policy domain to protect this domain as described in the. • Implement Windows Impersonation, as described in the. 19.7.1 Setting Access Permissions, ISAPI filters, and Directory Security Authentication Unless explicitly stated, this topic applies equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. It describes setting access permissions for the Web site that you are using as a default. If you have already installed the Policy Manager with the IIS instance, you can use the following steps to confirm permissions. To set or confirm access Permissions, ISAPI filters, and Directory Security Authentication • Start the Internet Service Manager. For example, from the Start menu click Programs then click Administrative Tools, and click Internet Service Manager. • Expand the local computer by clicking +, in the left panel. • Click to expand the Web Sites tab. • Right-click Default Web Site (or the site you are using as a default), and create a virtual directory as described in. • Right-click Web Sites in the Internet Information Services tab, click Properties, and perform the following steps: • From the Internet Information Services tab, click the Edit button. • Locate the ISAPI filter tab to confirm (or add) the filter DLLs, as follows: Filter: If you updated the IIS Web server configuration file, webgate.dll should be properly located. No Filter: Add the webgate.dll filter from WebGate_install_dir oblix access apps webgate bin webgate.dll • Save and apply any changes. • Click the Directory Security tab and confirm that both Anonymous Access and Basic Authentication are selected. Selected: Proceed to Step 6. Not Selected: Select Anonymous Access and Basic Authentication, then save and apply these changes. • Proceed as follows: •, if desired • No Client Certificate Authentication: Restart the IIS Web server. • Filter Positions: Perform instructions in to ensure that all filters have been added and are in the proper order. 19.7.2 Setting Client Certificate Authentication This task is optional and should be done only if you want to use client certificate authentication. In this case, IIS and WebGate must be SSL-enabled. Information in this topic is a sub set of details in. To add cert_authn.dll as an ISAPI filter • Start the Internet Information Services console, if needed: Click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Internet Service Manager. • Expand the local computer to display your Web Sites. • Right-click the Default Web Site (or the Web site that you use as a default), then expand access oblix apps webgate bin. • Right click cert_authn.dll and select Properties, then: • In the Properties panel, select the File Security tab. • In the Secure Communications sub-panel, click Edit. • In the Client Certificate Authentication sub-panel, click Accept Certificates and click OK. • Click OK in the Secure Communications panel. • Click OK in the cert_authn.dll Properties panel. • Click the ISAPI Filters tab, click the Add button to display the Filter Properties panel, and then: • Ensure the filters are listed in the correct order, as described in. • Proceed to. Note: This task is the same for both 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. It is the same whether you are installing one or more WebGates per IIS Web server instance. To verify WebGate installation • Go to the URL: http(s):// hostname: port/access/oblix/apps/webgate/bin/webgate.dll?progid=1 where hostname refers to the name of the computer hosting the WebGate; port refers to the Web server instance port number. • The WebGate diagnostic page should appear. • Successful: If the WebGate diagnostic page appears, the WebGate is functioning properly and you can dismiss the page. • Unsuccessful: If the WebGate diagnostic page does not open, the WebGate is not functioning properly. In this case, the WebGate should be uninstalled and reinstalled. For more information about removing Oracle Access Manager see, then return to the chapter on installing a WebGate. 19.9 Starting, Stopping, and Restarting the IIS Web Server When instructed to restart your IIS Web server during Oracle Access Manager Web component installation or setup, be sure to follow any instructions that appear on the screen. Also, consider using net stop iisadmin and net start w3svc are good ways to stop and start the Web server. This is true for all Oracle Access Manager Web components and is especially true after installing the Policy Manager. The net commands help to ensure that the Metabase does not become corrupted following an installation. For more information, see the Web component chapters in this book: • • •. 19.10 Removing Web Server Configuration Changes Before Uninstall The information in this section applies equally to 32-bit and 64-bit WebGates. Web server configuration changes that occur during installation must be manually reverted after uninstalling the Oracle Access Manager component (WebPass, Policy Manager, WebGate). For example, the ISAPI transfilter will be installed for IIS WebPass. However, if you uninstall WebPass this is not removed automatically. Also, the created Web service extension and the link to the identity directory will not be removed. This type of information must be removed manually. These are examples of information to remove, not a complete list. Further, you must remove any changes that you manually made to your Web server configuration file for the Oracle Access Manager component (WebPass, Policy Manager, WebGate) should be removed. For more information about what is added for each component, look elsewhere in this chapter. To fully remove a WebGate and related filters from IIS, you must do more than simply remove the filters from the list in IIS. IIS retains all of its settings in a metabase file. On Windows 2000 and later, this is an XML file that can be modified by hand. There is also a tool available, MetaEdit, to edit the metabase. MetaEdit looks like Regedit and has a consistency checker and a browser/editor. To fully remove a WebGate from IIS, use MetaEdit to edit the metabase. Limited time offers; subject to change. Microsoft has a neat little way to prevent software piracy of their Windows operating system. 'Windows Genuine Advantage'[edit: I stand corrected, it has nothing to do with WGA] with its 'Product Activation' requirement. Essentially, even with a valid product key, you still need to activate your Windows to ensure that only one computer is using that specific product key. If you can't activate your Windows, there being many reasons for this, you are left with a 30 day grace period to change your product key to one that is fully valid or get in contact with Microsoft and plea your case. Once your grace period is up, Windows refuses to let you login anymore. You cannot access your files. You cannot go on the Internet. You cannot do anything, except the thrill of trying to activate Windows. Well, luckily for me I do not have to worry about this issues, as my Windows is valid and activated. However, for those who do not and have been so unfortunate enough to have their Windows expire on them, I present to you a bit of relief. How to gain access to your files on an expired Windows, with even enough functionality to surf the web, talk on MSN Messenger, and load up most of your applications. It doesn't give you full functionality of Windows, but it will be enough to get the job done until you can find the time to activate your Windows. Best of all though, it's all very simple and easy to do!!! First, turn on your computer and wait until you get to the Windows login screen. Next, click to login as usual. You should get an error from Windows telling you that your Windows has expired and is asking whether you would like to activate Windows now. A 'Let's activate Windows' window will appear. Let's minimize it. DO NOT close it. Now, hold down the Windows Key on your keyboard while you also press the 'U' key. This will open up the Narrator program to help assist those with poor vision. You will also not have a Task Bar at the bottom of your screen, as trying to open it will just result in it shutting itself down a few moments later. MSN Messenger works though, as well as most other non-Windows-based components. Disclaimer: I do not applaud piracy, but I do feel people should have access to their personal files, regardless of whether Windows has expired or not. This tutorial should not be used to bypass Windows Activation, nor does it restore full Windows functionality, but I provide it to those who are in desperate need of accessing files that are suddenly lost to them through the Microsoft Genuine Advantage activation system. I don't know what You don't like in this software. Or maybe You have heard, that 'greatest hackers' use Unix and Linux and You decided to rot on Microsoft. I have never see Operating system, which does not have any problems. The same matters about the software products. If everything was perfect there would not be new product versions. I can't understand people who rot on some software product. If You don't like it don't use it or write one yourself and prove us how stable You can make it!!! Anonymous said. THIS TACTIC IS STUPID, THERE IS AN EASIER AND BETTER WAY! I know this works on Vista. If the system won;t let you log on because your key is expired, simply choose, 'Activate with a new key from Microsoft'. That will launch a web browser. Then type in c: windows explorer.exe and hit enter. Windows will fully load up (explorer is the shell, the interface)! You will get the task bar, desktop, everything. Just don't close the activation window, or else the system will reboot. Here is another tactic you can try once you are in Windows to get rid of the activation box without rebooting. I haven't tried this, but after you are into windows, go to services.ms c and TURN OFF the windows activation service. Then go to task manager and kill the activation window PID. P.S.:TUX is the man MS is SOO stupid. If you want to download updates from MS website, go to the validation screen. Once there, turn of Scripting and Active X controls, and pick validate windows. It will take you to the update screen where you can update you computer. I HONESTLY think the developers at MS let these tricks work on purpose. I mean, NO COMPANY could be THIS stupid. I am sure that in the Linux forums, if you got a response to a Linux article or problem of: 'Well, just switch to Windows' you would regard this as unintelligent and not adding anything to the conversation. Stop trolling if you don't have an intelligent comment. I applaud the author of this tip for pointing out a clever way to solve a problem that some Windows users may run across. Anonymous said. To all you linux users, the reason we use windows is because it's simple (except from when it goes wrong). What we should have done is tell Microsoft to fuck off in 95 and stick to 3.1 or 3.11. That would have solved the stability and the activation problems. On the day of the release of vista, I got a chance to use it and honestly I find it crap. It appears to have taken the worst of windows (it's good old stability!!!), the complicatedness of linux and the interface from OSX. The price is outrageous, and ontop, you have to buy office at about the same price (there go the month's wages to our good old friend BILL). Linux is pointlessly complicated and I can't see people using it much (it took me a week to install a driver when I had the instruction booklet). PS: It's a great article.:). Anonymous said. By this time, you should have the cracks or whatever you're going to use to crack Windows available, since in in safe mode with command prompt you don't have network access, so no Internet will be available. If you need Internet access you can start with method #2 and then try safe mode again. Once in safe mode, you only see the command prompt. Type 'explorer' and press Enter. Now you have desktop, taskbar, system tray and anything you like, so you can browse to a Windows Activation hack tool or whatever. If you need a crack, I've just attached one to one new email at the hotmail account [email protected] account (password zxcvbnm) 2) The first thing I tried was the well-known Windows + 'U' trick, but it didn't work. I tried anything similar (Windows + 'E' and s on) but nothing worked. I was desperate, until I tried with Windows + 'U' + Ctrl + Alt + Del (5 keys, incredible). Surprinsingly enough, it worked and directly opened an Internet Explorer Window. Since Windows had booted normally, I had Internet access, which is a plus. Now comes the harder and tricky part. According to the old Windows + 'U' trick, you could just browse to 'c: windows' and run explorer.exe to keep working on your expired Windows or open any other application. Well, this doesn't work either, since now Windows says you don't have enough permissions or something like that (my Windows is in Spanish, so I don't know the English error message). But, as always with Microsoft software, there's a workaround. If you right click on the application you want to run and choose 'Run as' you can tell Windows to run it as Administrator, entering the Aministrator's password, and voila!, the application starts without complaining about permissions of whatever. As far as I have tried, this doesn't work with explorer.exe or taskman.exe, so it seems like it doesn't work system utilities, but for me it worked with Notepad, Wordpad, WinRAR, OpenOffice and even Outlook Express and eMule. The only annoying thing is that you must know where every executable you may need is installed. Now, since you'll also have usb support, you can plug in an usb memory stick with a cracking utility and remove the activation. Try the crack I mentioned in point 1). Works like a charm. Phil Collins said. Im trying this now and so far im in with firefox open, but thats not really that much use if i want to copy all my files to disks. But heres a few tips ive found, open an image in your browser or select some text, right click and click send to, or something similar, this gets you into outlook express and word if you have these, from here you can get into VB, i also found if you browse the pictures from say clipart, you can right click and click explore on things like my documents, this also fully restores the system, however it logs you out after about a minute. So heres the ultimate solution for getting past this. Boot your pc, twat F8 or del on some pcs, whatever your key is to get into the BIOS, then set the date back. Ive used this method for about a year, works like a charm, until now and its finally caught up with me. Now its just a case of finding the right date again, or hacking my way in the system. Anonymous said. Some of this may require you do a bit of research. Boot to command prompt and replace (rename the old one for saftey) C: windwos system32 winlogon.exe with a good copy (you will have to find one.) Add a reg key by creating a text file, adding the following lines and renaming it whatever.reg: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion WPAEvents] 'OOBETimer'=hex:7f,63,3e,be,ec,25,8e,19,be,a7,92,c6 Use the following command, pointing it towards your created file. Reg import whatever.reg reboot. Thank you so much! I have literally been bawling my eyes out for the past 4 hours because I couldn't get into my computer and get my paper, which is due tomorrow! I just bought my comp used and this was my first time using XP- and I didn't know what the activation thing was so I just kept Xing out of it. Until it expired yesterday and I couldnt get into my computer! But when I tried to activate it, it said I don't have a valid product. I tried talking to them on the phone and told them what happened and that I bought it used but they just said basically too bad. I'm a broke college student too and there's no way I'm shelling out the cash for another XP disk!! Thanks for the life-saving trick! Anonymous said. Hi Everyone.I recently bought a laptop from a friend of a friend and my daughter accidentally deleted something so I ran a system restore. The power went out in the middle of the restore so then I had to do a repair. My hubby finished the repair for me but in doing so he did not run the setup for internet.he just skipped it.so now its asking to activate windows and I can't configure my wireless connection at all. I haven't bought a router yet and tried to connect it through my dsl but no luck.I'm new at this stuff so any input would be greatly appreciated. Battlesnake said. I used Linux for a while (Ubuntu, and Fedora 8). While they are very fast, and have similar programs (if not better) to replace most of the ones I used before (Ardour, OpenOffice, GAIM, etc), it has inferior hardware support, and there are lots of little annoying bugs, particulally in Fedora 8. For example, when I try to install Synaptics, it complains about packages missing. Why can't yum just download them, or can't they be included in the distro/software. Also, although Linux doesnt crash as much, when it does, it doesnt recover as well. I suspended my system, and it wouldnt resume (Linux doesnt seem to like my APM, whereas windows and my home-made DSP operating system both work fine wih it), and when I rebooted, GNOME wouldn't work. I can use KDE effectively, but I prefer GNOME. I also keep getting access denied messages, when I try to mount or write to my FAT partitions, with no hint in the documentation as to resolving these (besides using 'root' as a user account). As for removing the WGA and activation stuff from XP, theres a few DLLs you can replace with dummies, and a few registry entries to delete, then you can just log-on normally, as if it had been activated. I found this, as I tried to activate, and couldn't get through to the MS servers (tried via broadband and dialup), so I ran a linux boot CD with NTFS support and a text web-browser, got instructions for WGA removal off the net, and applied them. Works a treat. Incidentally, I'm soon to be moving over to a mac though - its got the performance and robustness of Linux (both based on Unix), but with extensive beta testing too - so less annoying little bugs and inconveniances. Hmm, I just eXPerienced this weird (I think) eXPerience. Let's make it short. I used my previously activated XP HOME OEM product key (about 5 months old) for a fresh installation in my new laptop. I couldn't get activated the new machine with this key, of course. So i let it as is for the whole 30 days, and just expected, the THING locked my access to the system, just this morning. And then it came to my mind, what if I try to put in a new product key, and activate it? So I googled around and found a bunch of product keys. I didn't need any software to change my key, because the last time I tried to activate using the old key and failed, it prompted me to enter a new product key. So I clicked YES on the 'would you like to activate now' (or whatever it said, I didn't bother record it) dialog box, and expecting the same 'your product key has reached the limit bla bla bla' (whatever) as I eXPerienced 30 days ago. And the result was a shock! 'your product have been successfully activated' (or whatever)!!!!! And now I have two fully functional win XP home, with exactly the same product key!!! While I wrote this, I'm updating my windows (89 updates!!) without any WGA hassle. Someone tell me please how can this be possible??? Anonymous said. I'm trying to use parallels transporter to copy my old pc onto my new mac and it worked fine until. A friend of mine ran into the problem, and I could help him (as a computer profesinal that I am), so now I know one more trick. And you Linux fans. You keep on reminding us to switch to Linux. As if that is going to switch us to a better life, or less problems while working. I used linux, enough to connect a printer, install graphic driver (that took me only 2 days woooho), printing takes you a few hours to set up, if you wish to set up printing in another room, take another week to find the drivers and arrange the Samba server to operate with windows security. Try installing a USB GSM HSDPA device on your laptop equipped with Linux, like that on a Asus EEE PC, you can throw it away because no way you will ever find drivers for that. You can install open office on linux, thats great. Now, what happend when someone sends you a.docx or.xlsx file, from the newest office applications. What, you send back a message saying, sorry send it again so it is compatible with our office system (well that might work anyway). And again there are specific programs that I use on windows, and those programs are the one bringing me paychecks, that is why I prefer windows. I dont have the time installing graphic card drivers on 200 different computers, but I now how to do it if I wish to spend a lot of time, it does give you a lot more freedom and there is a lot of software, and I will support linux where I can, but from my point of view it's another thing to waste time on before getting results you aim for. So stop trashing and rambling about switching to a 'better' OS, whatever works for you, and whatever brings the results and money is the best choice. Every OS has its advantages and drawbacks, the one that get you the results is the right one. Anything else you have to say about it is just plain old bullshitting and you didnt bring any insights into the topic. And you should be castrated. The regards go the author of this text as he enabled us to learn a new trick that could come in handy in some situations, and it did now. Kockyhardrockr said. This isn't tested on more than my computer but thanks to your help i was able to navigate to a file browser eventually and cause an error WHERE YOU CAN ACCESS THE DESKTOP AND EVERYTHING JUST AS YOUR LOGGED ON for a short period of time. Taskbar and all. Because i went into the help section and tested all my internet connections their active. Windows just wont let me register over the lan. So im just gonna go old school and use the modem. K first, use his procedure. Then click help on narrator. In help go to options and click internet options. Go to content tab and click certificates. Go to import. Go up one level, and then right click my documents. Click expand and there should be an error.:) move quickly. It will fix itself. Anonymous said. Its a good article for a quick fix to copy files. I agree with your reasoning of allowing people to get their files after not activating, however, this would generally only be people that pirated the software and can not activate, stuff them. And of course, why is it linux users have nothing better to do than promote it duirng windows conversations/articles. Also where does the 'linnux' pronunciation from from, wasnt it named after Linus Torvalds? And before anyway says it pronounced like it ends in unix, no, no its not. If that was how it was meant, that is how it would be spelled. Anonymous said. At the moment I'm using this narrator thing to access a web browser. I use the open file option and go to my cddrive, right click it and hit open then it gives me an error message which in returns gives me a few seconds of desktop. My situation goes like this, I use a dell dimensions 8200 from 02, replaced the HD a month ago and didn't have the OS disks anymore. So I used a Emachines backup OS disc someone in my house had. Install went fine, yet I still got the 30 day activation period thing and when I went to try to activate it never worked. So I tried that registry fix a few days before it expired which just got rid of the counter and didn't do anything overall. I'm still technically locked out of windows, with the exception of the work around I mentioned. Though now when I go to hit 'yes' on activate now.I get the pop up that says windows is already activated yet when I hit ok it brings me to the log in screen. My questions are. Is there a way to delete, remove, disable the activation process overall. 2.Is it true I can't reinstall a OS on this after I used an Emachines backup OS disc? Any help would rule, I don't mind doing things through the narrator but it's annoying. [email protected] said. What I don't understand about Microsoft is how such complicated, and I really do mean complicated multi-avenue attacks and viruses are written, almost before the new software is even on the shelf! Makes you wonder just who is writing these viruses and Trojans when you have to have an extremely intimate knowledge of the Microsoft code in order to write the attacks! Do they let just anyone have the code to play ('Beta') with and try to 'Break it'.what are they really doing? In 2007 alone, Microsoft has released 5 Cumulative Security Updates and 4 Vulnerability Updates making multiple updates JUST for Internet Explorer. To those of us not privy to the code, we just wonder now, don't we? Now little Nazi Boy Jewish Hater, do not get down on me here, just yet! I am not going to tout Linux, as I have been a sys admin on the SPARC platform for Sun Solaris Servers using Sun’s proprietary Unix SunOS and BSD’s SVR4 or “System 5” since SunOS 4.1.2 (called Solaris 2 internally, or SunOS 5.x externally, for some reason!) in 1990-1991 when it was first was released. BTW: It came with support for multiprocessor - SPARCserver 600MP systems and our servers had (4) - 450mHz Processors (FAST!!!) and It also was the first CD-ROM-only release). I also took Sun Microsystems training in Sun Solaris 8 (actually SunOS 5.8 (x86)) System Admin Boot Camp and Advanced System Administration Solaris 9 (actually SunOS 5.9 – don’t believe me? Do a uname -a at cmd prompt and you will see the OS as a 5.9 for your Solaris 9 OS) Operating Environment in 2000. But alas in 2005 Sun released the source code for Solaris 10 (SunOS 5.10) so it is now “Open Sourced”, JUST LIKE LINUX YOU LUMMOX (Now you can get mad you Nazi!) and you don’t have to “Guess” what holes are hidden. There are not really any, with the cavieat that it is installed correctly with ports turned off and other such natural things you do!!! All versions of Unix/Linux are potentially at risk from improper and default configurations, and Brute-force attacks against remote services such as SSH, FTP, and telnet are still the most common form of attack to compromise servers facing the Internet, Unix, Linux, MacOS OR Microsoft! But, even Brute force can be thwarted very easily with good password enforcement. Remember, It is important to remember that brute forcing passwords can be a used as a technique to compromise even a fully patched and properly configured system – Unix, Linux, MacOS or Microsoft. Anonymous said. Very poor, man, this is only the half-way into it. The main-thang is. USE (almost) fully windows on an expired pc, with taskbar, with start-up-button, with your common desktop, BUT WITHOUT TASKMANAGER (but I bet theres also a way to keep it runnin). So, finally, in this case yoouu WILL need something else (a file of course) which will prevent windows-security-checkup-something to log you out if you once logged in with this trick. So that file you need, you could create on a pc which should have almost the same hardware like your pc where you want to use that file for your expired windows. But in the even best case you did this as a wise man, if you ever had successfully activated your windows once!) That Files name is: 'wpa.dbl' and maybe your friend has a working windows which is already activated, get a try to use that that file (which could be found in x: windows system32-folder) and use it on your own system-folder. OF COURSE, you can try my trick without that succesfully-activated-windows-wpa.dbl (from another pc which is almost with the same hardware-setup like yours, or a wpa.dbl-stored-file) but then you ve got maybe 2 minutes until your system will drop you out. So if you are finally in that iexplorer-window and once you got your wpa-file you chose over your browser that location of that successfully-activated 'wpa.dbl'-file (maybe from an usb-stick) and copy it right into your windows sytem32-folder, and of course overwright that existing bitch-file xD So if you already had done that. You are able to get your Windows-Desktop and your Taskbar back, finally. That good old Windows look that you are known from before your pc 'expired' xD So go to your browser and open that directory 'c: windows system32 (or wherever you installed it)' and search for that file cmd.exe (you know. That important little file) xD if that dos-shell comes up, type in it:'explorer.exe' of course, thats all your windows is almost recovered in that you already known before that hackmack. BUT still dont close that 'windows-activation-window' minimize that. And if you dont have a proper wpa.dbl-file I bet you get kicked some minutes later. But if you have that file, and windows is a bitch, you may have to set it up sooner than you would think. Then it could rescue your work on your pc. Sincerely Der-Meister-aller-Klassen. Anonymous said. OK here is ALL of what you can do: Option 1: The Linux Transfer. - THis is basically just booting of a live cd of linux and viewing your HDD that way. Google 'how to boot linux live cd' Option 2: The safe boot. -Turn off your pc. Turn it on, and when on the boot screen (little blue bar scrolling across on XP) cut the POWER to your computer. (taking out the battery for laptops, turning of the surge-proctecter for Desktops) Now just restart and select 'boot into safe mode' option 3: Mod the BIOS on startup. (i will not explain this because if you are good enough to do this, you would already know how) Hope this helps! Anonymous said. Many said buy the software. DUDE i bouth a PC with the software supposably installed. FROM A STORE. Now I am just by passing the damn windows activation bs. Store close down, had to reformat harddrive do to trojans. Got rid of that and now I am stuck with a Windows Xp cd key sticker on my pc thats worth jack crap. I dont wanna go spend more money on this bs. My pc worked great before the reformat, why cant microsoft just except that damn key again and let me reactivate. Your post is great BTW, but I need something to just F. Off microsoft's BS. TYPE:-c: windows explorer.exe in the browser. Download the explorer.exe & open it. You will get every thing as before for about 30 secs. Within that time open system restore & restore toa point before the activation had expired.System will logoff. Then restart your system. During restarting change the date to one befor e it expired. Then log on in to your previous system. Dont forgot to activate the windows using crack AntiWPA. Download its torrent from. Anonymous said. I've made it to my files lol! Here's where I'm clueless though. Old laptop with original files dead - Compaq w/XP legal key New (but still old/used, however woking!) laptop was bought without hdd - Toshiba w/XP legal key. So I own 2 valid XP keys, but this activation came up when I put my Compaqs drive in the Toshiba - I assume the Toshibas hardware is causing the grief by what I've read - so now can I reactivate my hard drive to my Toshiba or do I have to reinstall XP from scratch on the hard drive while it's in the Toshiba? I can see my files in explorer via the instructions here but I cannot connect to the internet - I don't want to erase my Compaq hard drive because neither machine came with an actual XP disk, just a restore partition - so how should I reinstall and re-activate? And which key do I use? My Toshibas key or my Compaqs key?apologies for the long ramble lol =). Anonymous said. I have found that with Vista or W7if your 30 day grace period is about to expire you can simply change the date on your computer to a previous date to alot you more time before it locks up. (must deactivate automatic date synchronization) Also if you have an illegitamate copy of Vista or W7 and a windows update invalidates your license, you are able to log on with limited usability and can restore to a previous date(most likely created before the updates are installed) which will un-invalidate your license, and allow you to hide the problematic update. Anonymous said. My machine had been off for a couple months, and while it was off, it had expired before I got it activated. It also had a static IP address from another system, so could not connect to the internet. I got into Explorer using your trick, then managed to get Explorer running through that. Once I had Explorer up, I got into control panel (within that few seconds it runs is plenty of time) and got into my Network Settings and was able to reset the static IP address to DHCP, got a new valid address and was able to activate successfully. John Lennon said. Part 2: - Download the latest WPA_KILL and also AntiWPA (torrent). - Once you run NTFSPRO from DOS/win98 your dead drive is mounted and visible, usually as D: drive since you boot from C: (now USB Stick or CD/DVD). You can use DOS filemanagers like 'Norton commander' (free) to copy and save folders. - Here's is what I did after some thinking. In d: windows system32 I backed up svchost.exe by DOS commands and. Go there first: d: cd d: windows system32 rename and bakup (you'll need it) ren svchost.exe svchost.bak genius bit: copy d: windows explorer.exe svchost.exe Now if you log in without USB/CD/DVD it gets in with much delay and explorer comes up for only 30 seconds ONLY. BUT running WPA_KILL or AntiWPA or REG edit files do not work. SO: An old trick for Administrator Password change if forgot/etc.: Screensaver, if set, can be renamed to CMD or explorer. But I had not set screensaver before Bill Gates stole my software. I gave it a shot. Boot into DOS/win98 with USB/CD/DVD again: run ntfspro then do this: d: (if your lost drive is d:) cd d: windows system32 backup logon.scr, if you didn't have this file: no harm: ren logon.scr logon.bak make DOS command box your new screensaver: copy cmd.exe logon.scr. John Lennon said. Part 3: Now take off USB/CD/DVD & boot normally. Get into windows activation and leave the machine (no touching keyboard or mouse or mving for screensaver to work) for 20 to 40 minutes. The command box pops up as screensaver! Type: C: windows explorer.exe If this does not happen try again without logging into activation by saying No to the dialog box or leave it and it will eventually work after 30 minutes of not touching the machine. - Once I had the explorer, I ran AntiWPA and then WPA_KILL to make double sure! Then shut down & rebooted into DOS/win98. Deleted the svchost (which was in fact explorer.ex) and restored svchost: ren svchost.bak svchost.exe in windows system32 Shut down and took off USB (or your CD/DVD) and booted normally. It takes a while to boot in again as the thief's software is confused! CTRL+ALT+Del gives you the task manager. In processes kill unnecessary stuff like wuaudit or similar but nothing else if you are not sure. Also from Task Manager file menu choose 1st option to run & type explorer.exe if things are taking too long. Use AntiWPA or WPA_KILL or other stuff again if you want. Copy your stuff from desktop to safety and upgrade to Windows 7 (torrents) in good time which has a great deactivator there too. Set updates to NO as in XP. If new Service Pack for win7 comes up for Windows 7, don't use or at least wait 6 months to a year before installing as it will only do this sort of stuff again. Love & peace out;). Anonymous said. I did the repair but some files couldn't be copied, or so windows said. When the repair finished and i tried to login, that stupid product activation locked me out. It wouldn't accept my key or anything. Thanks to this little trick, i now have my pc back to normal. I have emails dating back to 2002 with important information on them so i was glad i didn't lose them - once i could login and run my activation killer, everything went back to normal:) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT TUTORIAL! Its only a 2 hours reinstallation procedure every 30 days and it keeps me from shelling out *ANOTHER* $149.99 of my hard earned cash as Microsoft refuses to let me use my purchased XP after a Motherboard+VideoCard+Wifi+Hard drive upgrade at once. Plus, you will not lose your files if you do a re-install, just dont reformat, leave file system intact, then install XP in a different folder, once done, delete manually the old windows directory and then go do c: documents and settings your_old_user_name to retrive your old files back and move them over to your new user profile. I think I will be retiring soon this copy of Windows XP and will be installing Ubuntu as soon as XP expires on me this one last time, I would not have to deal with this again. 1 – 200 of 221.
